About The Essay Atelier

Every student has a compelling story waiting to be told.

The Essay Atelier is a boutique essay coaching practice founded by a Bay Area Middle and High School English teacher with a proven track record of guiding students to top universities like Columbia, Cornell, and NYU.

Unlike large tutoring companies or AI writing tools, we believe the most powerful college essays are deeply personal. Our role is to coach, not ghost-write — helping students excavate their unique story and present it with clarity, confidence, and craft.

Our bespoke approach means every student receives individualized attention tailored to their specific application goals, grade level, and voice. We serve students from the Bay Area and beyond.

01

Authentic Voice

We help students articulate what makes them genuinely unique — not what they think admissions committees want to hear.

02

Academic Rigor

Grounded in literary craft and writing pedagogy, our feedback goes beyond surface edits to strengthen structure, tone, and argument.

03

Teacher-Led, Always

Every session is led by the same experienced teacher — no outsourcing, no junior coaches, no AI rewrites.

04

Targeted & Efficient

No fluff. Packages are scoped precisely so students get exactly what they need for each stage of their application journey.

What Parents Are Saying

Families who found their way through.

We came to the US from India and had no idea how college applications worked here. The whole process felt overwhelming and foreign to us. She explained everything patiently, and our son's essay ended up capturing exactly who he is. We could not have done this without her.

Parent of 12th Grader
Immigrant Family · Fremont, CA

Both my husband and I work long hours and have no background in this kind of writing. We looked at full college counseling services but the cost was simply not realistic for our family. The Essay Atelier gave us exactly what we needed — focused, expert help — without paying for things we didn't.

Parent of High School Senior
San Jose, CA

English is my second language and I always worried I couldn't help my daughter with her writing the way other parents could. Having a real teacher by her side — someone who truly understood what these schools were looking for — gave me so much peace of mind.

Parent of 11th Grader
Chinese-American Family · Cupertino, CA

My son had the grades and the activities, but when it came to writing about himself he just froze. After one session, something clicked. She has a gift for helping kids find the story they didn't know they had.

Parent of College Applicant
Palo Alto, CA · Admitted to NYU

We are a first-generation family and the college essay felt like a wall we didn't know how to climb. The process was thoughtful, encouraging, and completely focused on our daughter's voice. We saw her confidence grow with every session.

First-Generation Family · San Francisco, CA

I was skeptical at first — my daughter is a strong writer already. But the coaching wasn't about fixing her writing. It was about helping her figure out what to say. That's a completely different skill, and it made all the difference.

Common Questions

Everything you need to know.

Do you write the essays for students?
Never. We are coaches, not ghost-writers. Every word comes from the student — our role is to help them find, shape, and refine their authentic voice. This is both ethically important and strategically smart: admissions readers can spot inauthenticity.
Who leads the sessions?
All sessions are led by our founder — an experienced Bay Area Middle and High School English teacher. We never outsource to junior coaches or use AI to generate feedback.
Are sessions in-person or virtual?
Sessions are conducted virtually via video call, making it easy for students throughout the Bay Area and beyond to participate from wherever they are most comfortable.
When should we start?
For the college personal statement (The Launch), we recommend starting in summer before senior year. For high school applications, fall of 8th grade. The earlier you start, the more time we have for deep iteration. Early bird pricing is available now for Fall 2026.
What if my student needs help with supplemental essays too?
The Launch package focuses on the primary personal statement. For supplemental essays and short answers, our À La Carte hourly option is perfect — flexible and targeted.
How does the free intro call work?
It's a relaxed 15-minute conversation — no pressure, no pitch. We'll talk about your student's goals, current grade, and application timeline, and figure out together whether and how we can help.
